We are back on-line

Hurricane Wilma hit Florida hard last weekend and power was out for large areas. Our server is hosted in a sophisticated building built to withstand disasters, but as usual, the unexpected always happens and the emergency power generator broke down without warning...

We are finally back on-line, after a couple of days of on/off periods... Below is the official explanation of what happened...

Bocacom DC Update

As many of you are aware, the Bocacom datacenter was in the direct path of hurricane Wilma. Although the facility should be well equipped to handle such storms, there has been a serious failure within the 10MW generator plant.

Onsite engineers have been unsuccessful in attempts to restore backup power and additional support is enroute. At this time, we have been given an ETA of 3pm EDT.

The Bocacom datacenter is located in a facilty rated to withstand a maximum category 5 hurricane. The backup generator plant is also housed withini a cat5 building. Utility power is supplied via 2 seperate power substations. There is fuel onsite for several days. Last week a generator test was performed and no problems were found. The power failure today was apparently caused by the failure of the pump that delivers fuel to the generators. This pump was not a redundant component and must be repaired before the generators can be put back online.

We sincerely regret today's issues and understand the critical nature of this business. We are working closely with facility management to ensure resolution. Once this is resolved there will be a complete review of all aspects of the failure.

Any additional updates will be posted at www.bocacom.info .

Sincerely,
Robin Thomas
