Personal Info

Name
Teddy Zmrhal
Personal Profile

Originally from Chicago, I arrived in Silicon Valley the second time in 2003 after winding my way through nearly a quarter of the worlds’ countries.

I am currently a partner at Congruity, a boutique strategy and leading edge technology and social architecture consultancy in Silicon Valley, and a Visiting Scholar at Stanford through the Center for the Study of Language and Information (http://www-csli.stanford.edu/) and the Reuters Digital Vision Program (http://www.rdvp.org/).

In previous lives I have been in Strategy and Product Development for SmartForce, LLC. a Senior Consultant at Accenture and Deloitte, a financial research consultant for the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, a Trainer and Consultant for Motorola Inc, a paper boy, snowplow driver, landscaper, carpenter, computer consultant, many-time student, professor, learning designer, strategist, VP of product development, entrepreneur, and always negotiator, and aspiring academic.

My career encompasses work with Fortune 500 executive teams, startup management teams, corporate and non-profit boards of directors, regional and national leadership networks and both “authorized” and “emergent” communities of practice…but I am still and always will be most a fan of upstarts and underdogs. After earning my Master of Arts in Learning Sciences from Northwestern’s Institute for the Learning Sciences, I led a team that redesigned and taught the graduate curriculum.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in International Business Administration and Modern Languages (Spanish and Russian) from Illinois Wesleyan University, and Executive MBAs in Strategy and Organizational behavior from Columbia and London Business Schools As I left Chicago, I founded the board of directors and served as chairman for an irreverent theatre company and was co-founder and Vice President of Product Development for Learning Productions LLC where I led the strategy, design and implementation of educational simulation software and the research and development department.

Having lived most recently on American Airlines, I recently moved to a Long Ridge atop the Santa Cruz Mountains just west of Silicon Valley. There I find both the stimulation and the tranquility necessary for inspiration.

Project Info

Project Title
NextGen Leadership Landscapes
Project Summary

This project will seek to catalyze innovation in practice and technology to support and nurture next generation leadership networks in the non-profit and international development communities. We will do so by prototyping solutions for members and sponsors of fellow networks using social software, social network analysis, and communities of practice. We will also determine the technical and support requirements needed to sustain such networks as a service for sponsoring organizations.
