Gobal endorsements of social entrepreneurship

The Norwegian Nobel Committee and the MacArthur Fellows' Selection Commitee selected three social entrepreneurs as award winners this year. The Nobel Peace Prize was given to Muhammad Yunus and his Grameen Bank and MacArthur Fellowships were awarded to Jim Fruchterman (Benetech) and Victoria Hale (Institute for OneWorld Health).

Lessons from the Financial Services Innovation Summit...

The Reuters Digital Vision Program’s (RDVP) Financial Services Innovation Summit at Stanford last week was a hit!

The speakers and audience was incredibly diverse - venture capitalists, multi-national firms, start-ups, non-profit leaders and researchers all shared their perspectives on the next generation of financial services for un/under-banked populations. Whether the speaker was the CEO of a consumer-electronics giant in Mexico (Javier Sarro - Grupo Elektra), the President of a global network of microfinance institutions (Nancy Barry - Women’s World Banking) or the founder of a start-up venture in Kenya (Segeni Ng’ethe - MamaMikes), three broad themes were interwoven throughout their remarks: customer-centric design, extending beyond credit, and striking a balance between touch and technology.
