Mahatma Gandhi on what he termed as an the local economic model of Swadeshi (local self-sufficiency or in one’s own country) is applicable globally ~ “The true India is to be found not in its few cities but in its seven hundred thousand villages. If the villages perish, India will perish too.” What it signifies in the principle of swadeshi, whatever is made or produced in the village, must be used, first and foremost, by the village community and thereafter the rest to be traded.”

Gandhi said "It is not Mass Production, but Production by the Masses that would make the difference"!

What this means instead of centralized economic and business models of today which have proven to be very volatile, economically exclusive and with unsustainable socio-economic growth and environmentally unsustainable are giving way to new models. Swadeshi or what we in our team call the "First Mile" we believe will be based on;

i A million distributed local microeconomies

ii All connected through demand-supply aggregation for what is beyond local consumption

iii Based on renewables ~ Human Capital, Financial Capital, Physical Capital and Natural Capital

iv All connected through a "Swadeshi Grid" of interconnected demand-supply marketplaces

So picture this. If each village as a local GDP of around $1,000,000 in India and India has over 600,000 villages, we are talking about a grid GDP of over $600 billion on an annual, renewable and sustainable basis. The combine this with other secondary and tertiary industries and the math is for you to imagine. Now apply this to any economy and you have unimaginable potential unleashed which will be based on sustainable models of growth.
