Expectations from Rio Trip
Here is how the success of my trip to Rio will be measured.
- Do we have a fully fleshed out (albeit still iterative) storyboard for the user interaction of posting and retrieving an entry?
- This is vaguely described because I'm not sure if the interaction will be on the phone or on the computer as of yet. As will be described in my project update, I plan to test two interfaces while at the school.
- It is also vague because the assumption about an audio blog may be challenged. Posting an entry may be an audio file or a video clip or an image, or even an actual text message. Whatever it ends up being, my storyboard will specify it.
- Do we have a communication strategy/commitment?
- Since one of the reasons for my going to Rio is the inefficiency I have found with our communication during this first month of the fellowship, I need to build a more streamlined communication protocol with someone at the school. It may be talking to the computer teacher instead of the director. It may be teaching them how to use this collaborative site. It may be getting a commitment for a weekly/bi-weekly conference call. Something.
- How will this NGO interact with Chip's students?
- I need to convince the NGO of the benefits of the collaboration with Stanford GSB students, orchestrate the details, and get a commitment from them about this partnership.
- Alternatively, they may convince me it's a bad idea.
- Do we have a schedule of deliverables for the remainder of the year, at least until my next planned trip in March?
- Since not much would be accomplished in December, I may not make a trip then (would do if necessary, though). Because of that, a clear plan with deliverables is important to bridge the gap between this and the next trip.
- This would include not just the deliverables, but also how we would measure their successes. For example, I think one of the deliverables will be getting X number of students blogging X number of entries by X date.
- Did we have a good time?
- I will be most important to have had a good interaction with the director, the teachers and the children. Since this is my first visit to the school, we need to keep things alive and exciting for all parties invovled. I think this is as important as the other more concrete goals of the trip.
