The Cellular Church - Some Lessons

By Robert Maranga - Posted on 14 October 2005

As I reviewed the cellular church , I noted that is a social venture that is built on business principles. From our discussion and refernce to the article I did learn a number of lessons:

1. b-to-b model applied in the whole structure. Rick chose to be a provider of services to other pastors.

2. Rick did his research well on the community he was targeting - 'from door to door'

3. Some of his findings: 'free rider problem eliminated' by small cells; 'personal and flexible - a vehicle to personal commitment'; small groups that press on each other to participate. He made 'barriers of entry low' and he practiced what he preached.

4. The glue that keep the groups together and harmonious could be: 'recruitment, training and retention of members'. There are some background checks on members!

5. Rick has 'organisational talent' and perhaps his association to Peter Drucker - a management guru - helped alot.

6. Started small, grew and kept growing - just like a virus as noted by Jason.

7. Having mastered his audience, he package his product in away that it was attractive using print (books) and electronic (internet) media.

There are definitely more lessons. The article sounded to me like a story about a successful venture.
