Group Functionality
Users can create their own groups to collaborate, get in touch and share information. The creator of each group can decide if membership is only by invitation; if approval is required for becoming a member or if the group is open to everyone. In addition, he/she can choose to have this group listed in the new users registration form and in the list of groups or choose to maintain it hidden and not list it anywhere on the site. Also, whem a member of a group posts information on the site, he's presented now with the option to make that information accessible to the public or only to the groups he belongs and selects.
Once you have created a group, go to the groups page and click on the number of subscribers to your group (second column) to manage the groups members (add new ones, approve, remove, make a user an admin, etc.).
Groups enable users with permissions to create and manage their own groups. Community members often want to self organize or spontaneously organize around a topic of interest. Allowing communities to organize naturally is important part of a healthy community.
An group is created by a single group owner, who has special permissions including the ability to delete the group the owner created. Group administrators also have special permissions but can not delete the group unless they are assigned to be the group owner. Group subscribers communicate amongst themselves using the group home page as a focal point. They do so by posting the usual content types: blog, story, page, etc. A block is shown on the group home page that links to these group specific posts and actions. The block also provides summary information about the group.
Groups may be selective or not. Selective groups require approval by the group administrator in order to become a member. Organic groups also support private groups which will not be displayed in a list of organic groups.
As a member of our collaboration framework, you can:
- create groups via the create content menu.
- view a list of existing groups by clicking on the groups link on the top menu.
- subscribe to groups by selecting the subscribe link in the group block.
- create content, invite friends, manage subscriptions, view list of subscribers, and see the group administrator in the group block.
